SPAR, one of Europe's leading retail chains, places great emphasis on its SPAR toGo business, which offers customers fresh food prepared on site. In these outlets, managing the steam, smoke and intense food odours generated during cooking is critical.
One of the most important elements of kitchen infrastructure is a professional ventilation system. The aim is not only to provide a suitable working environment but also to guarantee that no disturbing odours or pollutants are released back into the surroundings (especially in shopping centres). SPAR was looking for a solution that meets even the strictest environmental and hygiene regulations.

Challenge
The primary aim of the project was to introduce an energy-efficient air purification system that can handle the kitchen load without compromise. SPAR's main requirements were the following:
- Maximum purification efficiency: High-efficiency filtration of greasy vapours and odours.
- Sustainability and cost-effectiveness: Minimising the use of consumables (filter inserts) to reduce operating costs and waste generation.
- Long-term reliability: Continuous, uninterrupted operation even during peak periods.
Solution
To meet these requirements, an integrated solution from AirQuality Technology was installed in the SPAR supermarket at Malom Plaza in Kecskemét. The system is built on two main technological pillars:
- FKE-UV-G series electrostatic precipitator (ESP): This unit performs the pre-filtration. It is designed specifically for high-efficiency separation of grease, oil and smoke particles from kitchen exhaust air.
- FKF-GW activated carbon filter unit: This high-performance unit, placed after the ESP, neutralises the remaining odour molecules.
Technological advantage: The high separation efficiency of the electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is crucial, as it prevents grease and oil from clogging the activated carbon panels. This protection dramatically extends the life of the activated carbon to at least six months before replacement is needed.

Results
The introduction of the integrated air purification system brought immediate and measurable success:
- Excellent air quality: The quality of both the kitchen working area and the discharged air improved significantly, eliminating odour-related complaints.
- Cost reduction: Less frequent maintenance and the longer service life of the filter inserts noticeably reduced operating costs.
- More sustainable operation: With less waste (spent filter media), the system supports SPAR's green objectives.
- Full compliance: The system meets all environmental and building services regulations.

Summary
The success of the project is shown by the fact that both SPAR's management and the operator of Malom Plaza expressed their satisfaction. AirQuality Technology's solution proved that it is possible to create a clean, healthy and sustainable environment even under the most intensive kitchen use.
