Filtration and disinfection
According to the manufacturer it neutralises 99% of PM2.5 particles, 99.96% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses, and captures particles as small as 0.01 µm.

MESP® (Micro-Electrostatic Precipitator) is AirQuality Technology's micro-electrostatic filtration technology. It uses a strong electric field to capture airborne particles – dust, soot, smoke, pollen and microorganisms – while the air passes through the filter with little resistance.
In brief
The air first passes through a pre-filter and then a charging grid, where the particles receive an electric charge. The charged particles are captured by the strong electric field of the honeycomb MESP matrix. The filter is washable, so there are no disposable filter inserts to replace regularly.
The How does MESP work? page explains the operation in detail.
Features
The figures are manufacturer data; the actual result always depends on the specific system and operating conditions.
According to the manufacturer it neutralises 99% of PM2.5 particles, 99.96% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses, and captures particles as small as 0.01 µm.
The air does not have to be forced through dense fibrous filter media: the resistance of a MESP filter is typically 10–50 Pa, compared with 150–350 Pa for HEPA filters.
The filter can be reused immediately after washing, with no loss of efficiency. The manufacturer designed it for a service life of more than 10 years.
It operates at 6–10 kV with a current of about 1 µA, so there is no risk of electric shock, arcing or sparking. According to the manufacturer it produces practically no ozone.
It operates between –15 and 50 °C, even at up to 100% relative humidity; the filter material is flame-retardant.
Because of the low resistance, the fan has to do less work. According to the manufacturer, fan energy consumption is 50–60% of that of a HEPA filter solution.
